Description
Windows Server 2025 Datacenter is Microsoft’s current server operating system release, for hosts running unlimited virtual machines on one licensed host. It adds Storage Spaces Direct for software-defined storage and the ability to act as a guarded fabric host for Shielded VMs, plus — new in 2025 — clustering support for GPU-partitioned virtual machines across multiple hosts.
Like Standard, it includes hotpatching (installing security updates without rebooting, via Azure Arc) and per-core licensing on a fully licensed host. Client Access Licenses (CALs) are required separately for every user or device connecting to the server.
